The US Embassy bombing in Beirut
At approximately 1:00pm on April 18th, 1983, the US embassy in Beirut, Lebanon was bombed. The blast killed 63 people in total, 17 were Americans.
I was very lucky, because I had my arm and the T-shirt in front of my face, which protected me from the flying glass. Most of the victims were CIA workers and one US marine was killed. The delivery truck bomb that was packed with 1 ton of explosives was granted entry to the embassy when it then crashed into the building's main lobby and detonated demolishing the front face of the structure. The Islamic Jihad Organization took responsibility for the despicable action.
